ABOUT THE PROGRAM
In this highly interactive, multidisciplinary program, you will explore a variety of approaches to mediation and conflict resolution, then put them into practice through coached role-plays and exercises. The class focuses, in particular, on mediating parental responsibility and financial aspects of divorce and other family conflicts.
Gain the basis for developing your own mediation practice or learn to create a system for problem-solving and working through conflict in your current business. The valuable tools discussed in this course apply to a variety of professional roles, including:

Classes emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of mediation skill sets and incorporate nationally recognized professional standards of practice and required screening for domestic abuse and impediments. The course follows the model standards set by the Association for Conflict Resolution and American Bar Association Family Sections and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
- Approved for 40 hours of Illinois Social Worker CEU’s, Illinois Attorney MCLE (including 40 hours of Professional Responsibility) are applied for. Additional accreditation may be available upon request.
- This program is generally accepted by family courts toward meeting requirements for appointment as a court-mandated mediator.
FACULTY
Lynn A. Gaffigan, JD, is the lead instructor, along with a team of highly experienced mediators from multi-disciplinary professional backgrounds including: Sue Bronson, LCSW, and Sharon Zingery, MA, and Helen Torscher, Certified Divorce Financial Specialist, all of whom have been mediators for more than 25 years. Lynn is an Academy of Family Mediators Advanced Practitioner member of the Association For Conflict Resolution and is appointed to the Mediator Screening Committee for the Circuit Court of Cook County Domestic Relations Division. She was nominated by her peers as a Leading Lawyer in Illinois in Family Alternative Dispute Resolution as well as Employment Alternative Dispute Resolution, and was lead faculty of DePaul University's Family and Divorce Mediation Certificate Program in Continuing Professional Education for more than 12 years. Lynn is also the author of the chapter on Child Custody Mediation for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE). Her training hypotheticals have been cited in the Harvard Negotiation Law Review (with John W. Cooley and Russell Hattis).

Cost of the 40-hr Family and Divorce Mediation Certificate is $1395 for Early Registration, and $1495 for Regular Registration.
